Nicole Swartz, born 1994 currently resides in the west of Johannesburg. Always been interested in art and drama. I am competent in various forms of art making such as sculpture, printmaking, and photography and drawing although painting has become my chosen medium of practicing art. I am also competent in digital media as a form of artistry such as photophobia, InDesign and illustrator.
My work investigates contemporary forms of portraiture such as the "selfie" which has essentially provided the "accepted" view of beauty. It critically analyses social networking as a means of glorifying virtual depictions of society and whether or not it can be deemed as realistic depictions of a person. My work therefore embodies the use of collage and the merging of different faces (selfies) which is evocative of the notion behind constructed beauty. My current influences as a result thereof are Nancy Burston, Nikki Lee and Asher Zero.
