Fear in aging

The painting is evocative of my fear of aging. This is primarily due to the bombarding of anti- ageing products that imply that aging is something that should be hindered or prevented in magazine conventions.

The painting therefore exudes a rather daunting ambiance in order to communicate this fear. The unnatural merging of the wrinkled skin against the youthful face comments on the inevitability of aging.

The painting furthermore consists of me attempting to cover up the supposed "ugliness" of aging through the application of makeup. The eyes are however the only part of the face which have aged and correlates with idea of beauty residing in the "eye of the beholder".

It poses the questions as to whether aging should infact be something that young girls should fear or prevent; and whether or not aging is as "ugly" as it is portrayed in magazines?
