The Hybrid

Commenting on the book, 'The Kite Runner' by Khaled Hosseini and selecting a single aspect of the book to produce a literary response.

One main character found in the book is Hasan. Hasan, through many hills and valleys, Hasan become the epicenter for the theme 'Sacrifice'. I then chose a male to symbolize Hasan and an animal to symbolize sacrifice.

Through this a connection of person and sacrifice has been made and a hybrid of the two resulted in a new figure.

This figure is part man part lamb.

The man doesn’t look Muslim (which is Hasans religion) and having no direct tie to the character of Hasan besides being of the same gender, the human part then interacts with anyone who has gone under the constraints of sacrifice - only hints of the males face gets revealed however eliminating identifying features. The lamb becomes a visual metaphor for sacrifice, being the sacrificial lamb.

An Interlocking/overlapping technique has been used for the merging of the two figures, this comments back to the bond between the character and sacrifice. This also gives the viewer a solid change between the two, it makes the hybrid figure an entire being, however you find two individually distinct figures being hidden behind each other. Through this one can see how sacrifice has become so apart of one’s life that it in turn becomes their identity.
